Histopathological Studies on the Effect of Taurine Against Etoposide-Induced Acute Liver and Kidney Toxicity in Female Albino Rats

Etoposide (ETP) is a topoisomerase Ⅱ (TOP Ⅱ) inhibitor and one of the leading chemotherapeutic drugs for treating wide variety tumors. However, ETP induced hepatotoxicity nephrotoxicity limits its clinical use. This study aims to investigate protective potential taurine (Tau) mitigated histopathological changes in liver kidneys female albino rats treated with ETP. A total 18 were divided into three groups; control group, ETP-exposed group received intraperitoneal injection on first 3 days cumulative dose 44 mg/kg induce nephrotoxicity, + Tau as stated previously 400 mg/kg/day via oral gavage 15 days. Sections from kidney evaluated under light microscope revealed vascular congestion, chronic inflammatory cell infiltration predominantly lymphocytes, edema, vacuolar degeneration, atypical cells, pyknosis, necrosis while sections combination exhibited marked alleviation damage. The concludes that treatment structural damages such morphological are effectively diminished by administering Tau.
